Kilmora is a brand promoted by Kumaun Grameen Udyog (KGU), an ethical social enterprise based in the Kumaon Himalayas of Uttarakhand, India. KGU is mandated to plough back its earnings into rural development activities. Through our range of handicrafts and agri-products, we strive to give quality and a fair deal to both the customer and the rural producer.
Our products include hand woven and hand knitted textiles; apricot skin care products; naturally-grown culinary herbs, cereals and spices; and fruit processed products such as jams and chutneys. This range of products is available at our online shop
Kilmora’s Artisanal Products
Jams & Chutneys
We make Jams and Chutneys using locally-available fruits such as Apricot, Peach, Plum, Apple, and Kiwi. These artisanal products are carefully prepared using natural processes, slow cooking, and minimal use of ingredients. This ensures that the flavour of the fruit is the dominant flavour.
Grains & Spices
We have a range of naturally-grown grains and spices such as Rajma, Chilli Powder, Haldi (turmeric), Madua (Finger Millet), and Gahat (Horse Gram) etc. Before packaging, these are processed locally using traditional practices (such as water mill) wherever possible.
Herbs & Herb Mixes
Conditions in the Kumaon region are conducive to growing a variety of kitchen herbs. KGU sources its herbs from farmers who on their farms use only natural inputs. The collected herbs are locally processed (shade-dried to preserve flavour and colour) and packaged for retail or wholesale use.
Cold Pressed Oils & Scrubs
Apricot grows abundantly in this region of the Himalayas. 100% pure and extracted using cold press technology, the oil and scrub are excellent skin-care products. Extracting oil and scrub from the kernels provides an important value addition to what is otherwise a waste product. Processing the raw material further provides income to the local community. Our Cold-pressed oils include Apricot seed oil and Flaxseed Oil.
Kilmora hand knitted products are made by women from local communities. Our raw materials include hand-spun vegetable dyed pure wool, machine-spun pure wool, acrylic, and cotton. We make a range of products such as sweaters, vests, caps, mufflers, neck warmers, gloves, socks, toys, hot-water bottle covers and tea-cosies.
